The team here at Brandings is always out and about in the “real” world and we’re surely not in a bubble.
We also know that we’re not the only Company Naming business out there and we know there are some other great companies out there so….
We want to bring you names that grab our eye or grab our attention, be it bad or good, we’ll be bringing it to you.
Walking through New York a month a go, one of our team, noticed this winner of a name. Let me say that once we saw this business name we thought how brilliant and what a attention getter!
Now, we don’t know who came up with the name or if they’re even homosexual but judging by the amount of people up front and the line out the door, this name clearly resonates with people. Again this was a month or two ago so it wasn’t even summer, in fact far from it, and there were still people in there.
Yes they do have items that are not ice cream but we believe the simple eye catching name has grabbed them a lot of attention. It is now left to their product.
Our team does feel that in the long run if the company is looking to expand, as in grocery stores and such they may, may have to change their name to B.G.I.S. if they are thinking that a family chain would pick them up.
We also feel that they might have trouble expanding into more conservative areas but there are so many more places in urban areas that they could go that, that doesn’t seam to be a problem. It seams they have already opened a second location in NY and have plans for more stores.
Also we noted the which is a sign that the owners of this company have filed for a trademark and received one by the US Patent and Trademark Office. (To read more on this please read this other great article on Trademarking a business name.) They must have realized the power of their name and jumped on the trademark and good for them.
They also have the .com, a must have for every business. If you’ve read this blog before, you’ll know that we think the shorter the name and shorter the domain name the better with few exceptions, this just happens to be one of them. The domain name is BigGayIceCream.com, it’s 13 characters but because it’s so descriptive and comprised of 4 short and easy words to spell it’s just fine.
Finally, and one of my favorite parts of the name is that it is completely cohesive to their brand. I’m not sure if this brand would be as successful as it is, if you went inside and just found chocolate and vanilla but no, not at the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop!
Here you’ll find products in line with their business name including: the Bea Arthor, Salty Pimp, Rue McClannahan, and Rainbow Paleta.
All and all, we love the Big Gay Ice Cream company and love the name, we have to give it two thumbs up. We wish that we could claim credit for it but we cant.
Please, please, please, if you have any names, company names, business names or product names that you would like us to discuss, send us an email, picture or note and we would love to give you our thoughts on the matter!
