Selecting a name for a newborn baby is relatively easy. Most parents put together a list of names they like and then make a selection. Naming a business is markedly more complex. Here are the basics in how to search for a business name.

You may want to conduct a more advanced search to find out a business name, or a similar business name is already in use – and importantly – how the name is being used. Even if you find a name that is already in use, you still may be able to use it if your use is a different product targeting to a different market. Take advantage of the free search functions available at the European Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs) at EOHIM Search and the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) database at USPTO Search.
D. [ ] Basic Search Engine Exploration
To gain a foundational understanding of any use of a business name, take advantage of the power of Google internet search. Be sure to enter different spellings of the name. You may also want to pars out the name into its root parts and conduct a search for each element. This simple Google search will give you great insight if the name is in use.

Take a look at the ownership of a domain name through Whois.net. And if you’re interested in a more complete history of a domain name, you can take advantage of the search tools available at DomainTools.com where you can undertake a more robust domain name search.
F. [ ] Advanced Trademark Search
You may want to conduct a more advanced search to find out a business name, or a similar business name is already in use – and importantly – how the name is being used.
